The Villans
Aston Villa began in 1874 when members of a cricket side attached to the Villa Cross Wesleyan chapel in Birmingham wanted something to play over winter. The club took the Villa name, and fans became Villans.
In the women's game
The women's side began in 1973 as Solihull LFC, became Villa Aztecs when it joined the club in 1989, and has been Aston Villa since 1996.
