The Eagles

Palace were originally the Glaziers, a nod to the Crystal Palace glass building. In 1973 manager Malcolm Allison swapped the nickname for the Eagles, taking the idea from Benfica, and moved the club to red and blue stripes inspired by Barcelona. The professional club was formed in 1905 by the Crystal Palace Company.

Nickname origins are often disputed, and clubs sometimes change their story. We update entries when we confirm something new.
