The Canaries
Dutch and Flemish religious refugees brought canary breeding to Norwich in the 1500s, and by the early 1900s the city had around 3,000 breeders. The first recorded reference to the team as the Canaries is a 1905 match preview.
The name took hold after the club adopted yellow and green in 1907-08, and their move to a ground called the Nest in 1909 sealed it. Before that they were known as the Citizens.
