Norwich City Women FC
Norwich City Women have deeper roots than their recent rise suggests. The original Norwich Women's team was founded in 1982 by Maureen Martin, who assembled a group of young players she'd been coaching and nicknamed "the fledgelings" — and in 1986 that side lifted the Women's FA Cup, a remarkable early honour, before disbanding in 1987. The lineage continued through the 1990s with a side called Canary Racers, who dominated the Eastern Region league, and the club began competing as Norwich City in 2001. Previously run by volunteers, the women's team was formally integrated into Norwich City FC in February 2022. Nicknamed the Canaries and playing at The Nest in Horsford — with occasional games at Carrow Road — they've won the Norfolk County Cup eight times and continue to climb the pyramid.
