Wolverhampton Wanderers Women
Wolverhampton Wanderers Women trace their roots to 1975, when they began as Heathfield Rovers in the West Midlands League. They went through a run of names — Wolverhampton & Wednesbury Tube, then Wolverhampton Ladies — before securing permission from Wolverhampton Wanderers to adopt the club's name ahead of the 1993/94 season, when they won promotion to the Premier League, then the top flight of women's football. England international Rachel Unitt came through the club in this era. The women's and girls' setup was taken under the Wolves community trust in 2008/09, and later the club's academy, sharing facilities at the Compton Park training ground. A landmark came in the summer of 2024, when Wolves handed out the first contracts to their female players. Nicknamed Wolves and the She-Wolves, and carrying the old gold and black, they've pushed to return to the upper reaches of the women's game.
