The Saints
Southampton started in November 1885 as St Mary's Church of England Young Men's Association, a church team, which gave the Saints nickname. It became St Mary's FC in 1887-88, Southampton St Mary's on joining the Southern League in 1894, and was later shortened to Southampton.
