The Pirates
Shared nickname
Bristol Rovers' official nickname reflects the city's maritime heritage. Their other nickname, the Gas, began as a jibe from Bristol City fans about the gasworks next to Eastville Stadium, and Rovers fans adopted it. The club started in 1883 as Black Arabs, became Eastville Rovers in 1884 and Bristol Rovers by 1899.
Real Bedford also use the Pirates nickname.
