The Cherries

The club formed in autumn 1899 as Boscombe FC, from the remains of an older Boscombe St John's Institute side, and picked up the nickname around the time it got its own ground in 1910.

The likelier explanation is the cherry-red striped shirts. A less accepted one points to the Cooper-Dean estate next to Dean Court, which may have had cherry trees.

Nickname origins are often disputed, and clubs sometimes change their story. We update entries when we confirm something new.
