The Chairgirls
High Wycombe was a furniture-making town, and the club was started in 1887 by young furniture trade workers meeting at the Steam Engine pub. The Chairboys name is widely linked to that chair-making trade, though the exact origin is not recorded, so treat it as the usual explanation. The Wanderers name is thought to honour the Wanderers, the first FA Cup winners in 1872. So naturally the ladies team took on the name 'The Chairgirls'.
