Anfield opened in 1884 and was first used by Everton, who left for Goodison Park in 1892. Liverpool played their first match here that September, a 7-1 friendly win over Rotherham Town. The ground's record crowd was for an FA Cup tie with Wolverhampton Wanderers on 2 February 1952.
