York City Ladies were founded in 1995 and have grown into an established name in North East women's football, nicknamed the Minsterbelles in a nod to York's famous Minster. Now run under the York City Foundation and playing at the University of York Sports Centre, they've climbed the pyramid through steady progress: winning the North East Regional Southern Division in 2005/06 to reach the Premier Division, and later taking the North East Regional Premier Division title in 2021/22 to earn promotion into the FA Women's National League. Carrying the club's red-and-blue identity alongside the men's Minstermen, they give players across York and North Yorkshire a competitive pathway in the higher tiers of the women's game.

Chris Hames appointed as new Women's Head Coach | York City Football Club

York City are delighted to announce the appointment of Chris Hames as the new Women’s Head Coach ahead of the 2026/27 season. Hames joins the Minster Belles after four years with Hull City Ladies, bringing a wealth of experience and a proven track record in the FA Women’s National League. Prior to his time at Hull, he held various coaching and management roles across the game, including positions with Manchester United’s Regional Talent Club, Sheffield FC Women, and Bradford City Women. His coaching journey at Sheffield FC Women began in 2017, progressing from Development Team Manager to First Team Coach, then Assistant Manager, before taking charge of the first team on an interim basis. In 2019, Hames was named manager at Bradford City Women before making the move to Hull. Throughout his four seasons there, he took the Tigresses from a Tier 4 side to an established Tier 3 outfit, and now joins us at an exciting time for the club, as the women’s programme enters a new era under the York City FC umbrella alongside the men’s first team and academy. Welcome to York, Chris!

The first team travelled to Altrincham to play in the third round of the FA Cup at the J.Davidson Stadium with a chance to progress to the fourth round for the first time in club history.  Coming up against a tier 6 side, the lowest ranked team left in the competition, the team were sure not to underestimate their opposition, but were prepared to come out of the tunnel strong.  The team started on the front foot, with plenty of attacking action and multiple chances from in the box – Katie Astle, Rosie Bell and Ruby Watt all coming close.  Corners from Bell found the head of Tara Duce and Sharone Buckle, but York were unable to capitalise early into the half.  Niamh Doody also came close, forcing some brilliant saves from the opposition goalkeeper with Dani Trickett delivering.  Finally, a well deserved goal was slotted into the net calmly by Watt, assisted by Astle. We led by one goal in the twenty-second minute of the game.
