Watford FC Women

Vicarage Road · Watford
8th · Super League Two

Watford's women's football heritage dates back to 1970, when a Supporters Ladies Club was formed in response to demand for a women's team at Watford — an outfit that played for a time under the wonderful name "Willy Walker's Watford Wonders." That club climbed the divisions, reaching the Premier League Southern Division by 2003 and establishing a partnership with the men's club through its Community Sports & Education Trust. When the WSL expanded to a second division in 2014, Watford successfully applied for a licence and entered the second tier of women's football, with the elite side moving under the men's club. Nicknamed the Golden Girls and playing in Kings Langley, they've had a yo-yo journey between the second and third tiers since, with runners-up finishes and promotions marking a club that has long punched at the higher end of the women's pyramid.
