Sheffield FC Women are the women's side of Sheffield FC, recognised by FIFA as the oldest football club in the world, founded in 1857. The women's club itself was formed in 2003, when the existing Norton Ladies team affiliated with Sheffield FC. Starting from the lower rungs of the pyramid, they climbed steadily — a run of promotions in the early 2010s carried them upward, and in 2014/15 they won the FA Women's Premier League Northern Division and the subsequent play-off to become the first club promoted to the newly-formed second tier, FA WSL 2. Based at Dronfield near Sheffield, "the Club" pairs a modern women's side with an unmatched footballing heritage.
