Manchester City WFC
Manchester City Women grew from grassroots beginnings before becoming one of the powerhouses of the English game. The club was founded in 1988 as Manchester City Ladies, out of a women's five-a-side tournament run by City's community programme, and spent over two decades climbing the pyramid — City legend Colin Hendry served as an early president to help raise the women's game's profile. Everything changed in 2012, when a formal partnership with Manchester City was struck and City Football Group investment followed; the club was relaunched as Manchester City Women in 2014 and entered the Women's Super League. Success came fast: a first WSL title in 2016, won only two seasons after joining the top flight, along with multiple FA Cups and League Cups. Signing England internationals like Steph Houghton, Jill Scott and later Lauren Hemp, City established themselves as regular title challengers and record-setters for attendances in the women's game.
