Hashtag United Women

Hashtag United are one of football's most modern origin stories: the club began online in 2016, created by YouTuber Spencer Owen (Spencer FC), playing filmed exhibition matches for a following that grew into the millions before entering the actual football pyramid in 2018. The women's team arrived in April 2020 through a merger with AFC Basildon, and quickly became the more decorated half of the club. They won the Essex County Cup in 2022 with a final win over Billericay Town, earned promotion to the third tier in 2022/23, and lifted the FA Women's National League Cup in 2024, beating Newcastle United in the final — three trophies in three years. Nicknamed the Tags and based in Essex, they carry the club's distinctive content-driven, community-first identity into the women's game.
