Burnley Women

Burnley Women

Turf Moor Stadium · Burnley
2nd · Super League Two

Burnley Women were founded in 1995 by John Lister, starting life as a group of 15 women who trained in the old sports barn at Turf Moor and played their home games at the club's Gawthorpe training ground. There's a nice quirk to the timing: the club came along just too late for hometown girl Rachel Brown-Finnis — later an England international goalkeeper — to join as a child. Known as the Clarets and carrying the club's maroon-and-blue identity, they were called Burnley FC Girls and Ladies right up until 2018. For most of their history the team was run through Burnley's community arm, before being integrated directly into the football club's operations in 2021.
