Arsenal Women

Arsenal Women are the most successful club in English women's football history. Based in Islington, north London and known as the Gunners, they were founded in 1987 as Arsenal Ladies by Vic Akers, then the men's team's kit manager, who went on to manage the side for 22 years and build it into the dominant force in the English game. They won their first major honour, the League Cup, in 1991/92, and took the top-flight title at the first attempt the following season. The club's defining moment came in 2006/07, when Arsenal won a historic quadruple and became the first — and still only — British side to lift the UEFA Women's Champions League, beating Umeå IK in the final. That season sat within an extraordinary run of dominance, including a 108-game unbeaten league streak between 2003 and 2009. Long the trailblazer of the English women's game, Arsenal added a second European crown in 2025, defeating holders Barcelona in the final. The club rebranded from Arsenal Ladies to Arsenal Women in 2017.
