Stoke City FC Women
Stoke City has a women's football history with an unusual early chapter: back in 1921, Stoke director Len Bridgett formed an early Stoke Ladies team, often known as "Stoke United," who played mostly in charity matches during the brief golden age of 1920s women's football before the FA's ban took hold. The modern club is a separate lineage, formed in the summer of 2001, and enjoyed a successful first season in the West Midlands league before climbing steadily through the pyramid — promotion to the Midland Combination in 2008/09, then a title-winning 2012/13 campaign that carried them up to the Premier League Northern Division. Affiliated to the men's club and nicknamed the Potters, they play at Wellbeing Park in Stone and have become an established name in the higher reaches of the women's game.
